Who writes the guides

Meet our editors

Three people write and edit everything on 12V Fridges. None of us has these fridges in the back of a car, and we don't pretend to. The work is reading manuals, spec sheets, warranty terms and owner reviews, lining models up side by side, and updating the rankings when prices or models change. Every guide names the person who wrote it and the person who edited it.

Renee Castillo

Senior editor

Renee is the senior editor of 12V Fridges. She decides which models make each ranking, checks capacity and cooling claims against the manual and the spec sheet, and reads owner reviews for the complaints that repeat. Her pet subject is size: the quarts on the box and the room left once the compressor housing takes its share are rarely the same number.

  • Compressor vs. thermoelectric cooling
  • Sizing: quarts, liters and usable space
  • Single and dual-zone layouts
  • Keeping the rankings current

Wade Holloway

Power & battery writer

Wade writes our guides on power and accessories. He reads wiring sections, fuse ratings and battery-protection tables, compares rated input and cutoff levels across models, and goes through owner reviews for the flat starter batteries and loose plugs that show up a few days into a trip. If your socket switches off with the ignition, he wants you to know before you pack.

  • 12V sockets, plugs and cable runs
  • Low-voltage cutoff and battery protection
  • Power stations, solar input and removable batteries
  • Slides, mounts and accessories that fit

Leah Fitzgerald

Specs & care editor

Leah is our specs and care editor. She compares what manuals say about ventilation clearances, temperature settings and cleaning, checks food-storage advice against FoodSafety.gov, and reads warranty terms down to the exclusions. She also keeps the cleaning guide close to what manufacturers ask for. When a number is missing from the paperwork, she would rather the page say so than fill the gap.

  • Food temperatures and thermometer readings
  • Ventilation clearances and placement
  • Cleaning, drying and storage between trips
  • Manuals, spec sheets and warranty terms
